BALI, the British Association of Landscape Industries, is the trade body for the UK landscaping sector. Membership is not automatic; it requires meeting standards the association sets for the industry, and it signals that a business operates within a recognised professional framework rather than entirely outside one. When speaking to a designer, a fair question is simply whether they hold BALI membership and what that membership has required of them.

What an exhibitor credit signals, honestly, is participation of that kind: a business chose to put planted design work in front of a national audience and industry peers at a recognised show, in a specific year. It is a factual data point about a single event, not a claim about the overall scale of the business, how many projects it completes, or how long it has been operating. Those are separate questions, and an exhibitor credit does not answer them. That distinction is worth being precise about, since exhibitor credits are sometimes stretched by marketers into claims about scale or reach that the credit itself was never meant to carry.

Planting does most of the biological work in a natural swimming pond, but it rarely works alone. None of these three accreditations replaces seeing a designer's actual work or discussing a project in detail, and no single credential should be treated as decisive on its own. But together, BALI, CHAS and ISO 14001 give a homeowner a set of concrete questions to ask rather than relying on impression alone, which is a reasonable place to start before committing to a project of this size.
